wow I have to say that sounds pretty intense.
At first I was thinking, since I'm so weird that it would actually be relaxing depending on the mood, but the more I read the article the more I *imagined* that I was... well err... having that and it didn't feel that comforting.
However, I think this experiement has to do much with mind over matter.
Become over the matter and then you command a situation in which you're being held in.
Also, its all in your mind, you have the ability to turn something that seems torture into something that is not. and vice versa.
